More than 3 million people in Africa are growing and consuming vitamin A “yellow” cassava. This biofortified crop provides up to half of a consumer’s daily vitamin A needs. It also produces high yields and resists certain viruses, making it a farmers’ favorite where it has been introduced: the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria.

DFID funding allows us to support the breeding, testing, and release of yellow cassava varieties in both countries, and to build partnerships to promote the crop to farmers and consumers. With DFID support, we are innovatively expanding the reach and impact of this more nutritious variety of a very popular staple food.
