Young “Agropreneur” takes Leadership to Improve Nutrition in Nigeria
Atinuke Lebile, farmer and nutrition advocate, is the co-founder of Cato Foods & Agroallied Global Concepts in Ibadan, Nigeria. Cato Foods is a partner of HarvestPlus.
Lebile calls herself an “agropreneur.” She has a degree in agricultural science and is a believer in food-based approaches for tackling malnutrition. That belief led her to found Cato Foods.
Ms. Lebile was selected as a Mandela Washington Fellow by The Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF), the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), which empowers young African business leaders by providing training and networking opportunity. This program is hosted by Purdue University, Indiana.
HarvestPlus’s project in Nigeria involves promotion and scaling up of biofortified vitamin A yellow cassava and orange maize that provide more vitamin A in the diet. We work with more than 400 partners drawn from government, business, and civil society globally to combat malnutrition. Ms. Lebile visited our Washington D.C., office to talk about the prospects of biofortified vitamin A cassava and maize in Nigeria. We took this opportunity to catch her passion for promoting biofortified cassava and maize on camera.
