On February 11, HarvestPlus will join the rest of the world in the very first observance of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS). Declared by the UN General Assembly, the day is intended to rally the global community around the goal of achieving full and equal access to, and participation in, science for women and girls.

At HarvestPlus, we are committed to parity across all levels of our work and we have placed women and girls at the center of our programming. From researchers in laboratories to promoters and outreach specialists in rural communities, women are driving our success globally. Thanks to their expertise, passion and commitment, we have reached 20 million people with biofortified nutritious crops. Under the leadership of our CEO, Bev Postmaa woman scientistwe are on a mission to reach a billion people by 2030.  

In the lead-up to IDWGS, we will be featuring some of the women scientists that are advancing our mission around the world, starting with Esi Foriwa Amoaful, the Director of Nutrition at the Ghana Health Service and a member of our Program Advisory Committee. Esi has important advice for women and girls interested in pursuing careers in science: “Go for it!” Watch her inspiring message in the video below.
