HarvestPlus was honored with the prestigious Mark of Excellence Award at the 2023 Economic Times (ET) Ascent Business Leader of the Year Awards ceremony in Mumbai, India.
The award recognizes HarvestPlus as a global leader in the promotion of biofortified nutrient-enriched crops to improve the nutrition and health of millions of people worldwide.
“We are extremely thankful for this award, and the deserved attention it brings to biofortification,” said Arun Baral, CEO of HarvestPlus. “We share this honor with all our partners in the CGIAR and beyond who have laid the foundation for this food-based approach that enriches crops and brings added nutrition into food systems.”
The ET Ascent Awards, powered by The Economic Times, World Sustainability, and CMO Asia recognize and celebrate the achievements of outstanding leaders and organizations in their respective fields.
“We are honored to receive this award in recognition of the millions of farmers and rural families who are thriving from biofortified crops,” said Ravinder Grover, HarvestPlus Asia Regional Coordinator. “This award motivates us to continue towards our vision of combatting micronutrient malnutrition.”
HarvestPlus is part of the CGIAR. For two decades, it has worked tirelessly alongside multiple CGIAR research centers and hundreds of delivery partners to develop and promote crops that are naturally rich in essential vitamins and minerals and proven to improve nutrition and health. The number of vulnerable people eating nutrient-enriched crops has increased significantly year on year.
Today, nearly 90 million people in over 40 countries are benefiting from biofortification, an approach that empowers women, improves livelihoods, and builds climate-smart resiliency into the food system.
