Another Milestone for Vitamin A Maize in Zimbabwe
On July 6, 2017 promoters of vitamin A “orange” maize in Zimbabwe celebrated an important milestone with a ceremonial harvesting of this high yielding biofortified crop. The event took place at a demonstration farm and involved the use of a state-of-the-art combine harvester that could calculate area, moisture, tonnage, and yield per hectare.
More than 200 representatives from the seed and grain value chains, development partners, and commercial and communal farmers attended the colorful event. Also in attendance were Directors from the country’s Health and Agriculture ministries, as well as the Head of the UK Department for International Development’s office in Zimbabwe, Annabel Gerry.
