HarvestPlus Founder Bouis Awarded at Agrobiodiversity Congress
HarvestPlus founder and Ambassador-at-Large Howarth Bouis has been honored at the inaugural International Agrobiodiversity Congress in New Delhi, India. Bouis, a World Food Prize laureate, was awarded for his pioneering work in addressing global hidden hunger through biofortification.
Five other World Food Prize laureates also received awards, which were handed out by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 6.
The four-day Congress has brought together scientists, students, farmers, as well as representatives from government, non-governmental organizations, and industry to share their research experiences for sustainable management and utilization of agrobiodiversity. The emphasis is on rational and effective use of agrobiodiversity for food, nutrition, and environmental security.
Organized by the Indian Society of Plant Genetic Resources (ISPGR) and Bioversity International, the Congress is chaired by renowned Indian agricultural scientist and first World Food Prize winner Dr. M.S. Swaminathan.
