HarvestPlus has been honored with the distinguished ‘Excellence in Eliminating Hunger and Poverty’ award by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India—an acknowledgement of HarvestPlus’ unwavering commitment to transforming global food systems to make them more resilient through biofortification.
“Hunger and poverty pose significant obstacles to achieving inclusive development goals. HarvestPlus is dedicated to improving the economic and health conditions of smallholder farming households and marginalized rural communities by expanding the cultivation of more nutritious staple crops, to uplift communities and promote their well-being,” said Ravinder Grover, HarvestPlus Asia Regional Coordinator.
By partnering with local farmers, agricultural researchers, and government agencies, HarvestPlus is ensuring widespread adoption and cultivation of biofortified crops. Communities are being empowered to grow their own nutritious food and break the cycle of malnutrition and poverty through increased access to nutrient-enriched staple crop seeds varieties. HarvestPlus will continue to innovate, collaborate, and implement sustainable solutions to address malnutrition and ensure food security for the most vulnerable populations.
The honorable Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Shri Thiru. Siva. V. Meyyanathan, and Minister for Education, Shri Thiru Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, of the Government of Tamil Nadu presented the award. The ceremony was organized on June 23, 2023 in Chennai, India.
