Cornell University is today honoring World Food Prize laureates Howarth Bouis and Jan Low for their contributions to the development, research, and promotion of biofortification as a strategy to combat micronutrient deficiency. The university has organized a day-long symposium, Biofortification to Alleviate Micronutrient Malnutrition symposium, which will also showcase the many Cornell scientists who have contributed to biofortification research.
The two laureates will be joined by 2001 laureate and Cornell professor emeritus Per Pinstrup-Andersen for the symposium’s keynote session in the afternoon. Bouis, the HarvestPlus founding director and Ambassador-at-large, and three scientists from the International Potato Center (CIP), including Cornell alumna Jan Low, received the 2016 World Food Prize on October 13.
