Research & Implementation

HarvestPlus starts by identifying malnourished populations that can benefit from biofortification, and through a series of research and implementation steps along an impact pathway, delivers micronutrient-rich staples food crops to them to grow and consume.

HarvestPlus has identified target crops, staple foods consumed by most of the world's poor, that are prime candidates for biofortification. HarvestPlus focuses on three critical micronutrients lacking in the diets of the poor: Vitamin A, Zinc, and Iron. Learn more about the negative health effects of micronutrient malnutrition.

HarvestPlus research and implementation activities are organized around five key inter-disciplinary programs.

Our medium term plan lays out our 3 year strategy and action plan in full detail.
