Many organizations around the world are tirelessly working to improve people’s lives and communities. There are innovative efforts and inspired champions for bold change in every corner of the globe. That is why we at HarvestPlus are profoundly honored that we have been selected as a semi-finalist from more than 1,900 entries in the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s global competition seeking bold solutions for critical problems of our time.
Our progress in the 100&Change challenge, which promises a $100 million grant to the winner, is an endorsement of our breakthrough innovation to improve nutrition as an impactful intervention for populations affected by hidden hunger. Evidence continues to build that our micronutrient-rich biofortified crops are providing better nutrition and health to consumers. More than 20 million people in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean have embraced these crops within the last few years.
With a $100 million grant, we would considerably scale up the delivery of biofortified crops in Africa, transforming the food system and breaking the cycle of nutrition insecurity to leave a lasting legacy for the continent's future. The grant would allow us to set the stage for reaching 1 billion people globally with these nutritious crops by 2030.
We thank the MacArthur Foundation for this tremendous opportunity to compete for the $100 million, and congratulate each of the other seven semi-finalists on their inspiring proposals to make our world a better place for everyone.
